Conference on World Affairs April 2009

Conference on World Affairs April 2009
One of Australia's Top Social Justice Ambassadors, Kay Danes, has been officially invited to attend the 61st Annual conference on World Affairs [CWA] held in Colorado from April 5 - 10, 2009.The event attracts audiences of more than 75,000, from students, to faculty, staff, alumni, townsfolk, journalists, film producers, editors of major newspapers and media outlets, policy makers, and visitors from around the Nation. Previous guest speakers have included Eleanor Roosevelt and current Vice-President elect Joe Biden.

Kay's attendance at the CWA will no doubt create a great deal of awareness as to the social justice and human rights issues surrounding the broader foreign internment issue, as well present a wonderful opportunity to highlight the injustice surrounding Schapelle Corby's detainment in Indonesia.

To offset Kay's costs the management of the Free Schapelle Fighting Fund has set up a site where donations can be made securely and anonymously. We aim to raise a minimum of $2000 AUD and need that reasonably quickly. Please make your donations at http://www.freeschapelle.com.au/FightingFund.htm.

About Kay Danes
Kay Danes, a woman of extraordinary talent who has achieved enormous success, much of which is attributed to her easy going-never-give-up personality. Kay has had a diversified career, establishing an international security protection service for the UN, International Corporations and Foreign Investors, working in hostile corporate environments. In 2000, while in service to their clients, Kay and her husband were abducted by secret police. They endured mock executions, torture, and arbitrary detention in one of the world's most secretive communist prison systems. If not for their government's immediate intervention and intense lobbying, the Danes would not have been freed.

Since that harrowing ordeal, Kay Danes has become one of Australia's top social justice ambassadors and has been a guest speaker at two US Congressional Forums on democracy. She has featured in numerous television interviews, radio and print media throughout the world. Her personal survival story is inspirational. Her continued motivation to help others endure their own struggles is moving. Her descriptive and skilful articulation of her experiences gives her audience a "fly-on-the-wall" perspective of third-world political processes and prisons.
Kay's diplomatic efforts have earned her the respect, and the ear of, some of the world's most prominent individuals and government figures. She stimulates community spirit and arouses the determination to make the world a better place.

Australian human rights activist Kay Danes made a lasting impression on many of the panelists at the CWA, speaking with passion and humor about a range of subjects, from torture and genocide to the media frenzy surrounding Schapelle Corby (Ms. Danes very persuasively argued that Corby was denied a fair trial and was, rather, subjected to a "trial by media.") She was a delight. As one of the organizing committee members, I thought she was a real breath of fresh air.
