What Americans think about Schapelle Corby

The people of the U.S.A., Canada and the UK are speaking out about the raw deal given Schapelle Corby in Bali. These comments are from just one website over the last 24 hours. Support Groups are being organised, extra showings of Ganja Queen are being organised on university campuses. The citizens of the USA are speaking. Is Australia listening?

I watched with great sadness the documentary on the arrest and conviction of Ms. Corby on HBO. It is impossible not to be moved. I am praying that there will be something or someone that can sway the Indonesian government into releasing her. While I certainly understand their stance and their complete right to maintain law and order in their own country, I am hoping that they will be compassionate and restore this young lady to her homeland and family. I am no expert, but it does appear that the case against her is cloudy, from what I saw in the documentary. She is not guilty beyond all reasonable doubt. I feel there are still so many unanswered questions. In any case, I was compelled to sign this petition because I found that after more than a few days after viewing the film, I am still so deeply disturbed by this young lady's circumstances. I hope this helps, in some way.

Before last night I had never heard the name Schapelle Corby. I watched a documentary about her titled Ganja Queen. What a horrible injustice this young woman is dealing with. I just saw your documentary and I am outraged by your sentencing. You are in my prayers. Please don't give up on God in this satanic time. I feel in my heart that there is a miracle waiting for you balancing on your faith. That is harder to say then believe, I don't think I could go through this and had my young daughters watch your doc and to educate them that they have NO rights outside the U.S. You are magnificance and I am so glad that your family is there to see and feed you. You and many of us know that this should not have happened and this is a scam to make an example for other criminals, not you. May I ask, Why in the world did you chose to go there on vacation? The shots of the town look like nothing but poverty. Why not somewhere where you had rights? I have NO desire to ever visit that country and I hope many feel the same way. To think that 2 terrorists who were found with a cache of weapons to be used in a terrorist attack received a lessor sentence (15 yrs. compared to the 20 that Schapelle received) is an outrage. I just watched the documentary "Ganja Queen," and am incensed that Shapelle Corby is serving a 20-year prison term for a crime she did not commit. As criminologists pointed out, correct forensic procedures were not followed. Cameras were not working at the airports in Australia. There were no cameras to observe what occurred when Ms. Corby was confronted about what was in her boogie board bag. Her conviction is such a blatant miscarriage of justice. Personally, I will do my part in making the United States aware of her ordeal, and to try to exert influence to gain her freedom.

I as a proud Australian just cannot accept the fact that we the Australian people are not going all out to get our new Prime Minister Mr Kevin Rudd to do something about this outrageous situation Schappele is in. I have followed this situation since she was arrested and have watched how the Press of Australia have manipulated public opinion one way then the other and they still are in recent times all for the dollar. Discracefull considering the circumstances of a young Australian woman. It is well known that corruption in Indonesia is rife and can be very dangerous, including judges & police who can be bought for a price. I applaud the people of all countries to help free this woman from being incarcerated in the shithole they call Kerabokan Prison. To the people of the USA - you guys rock, a proud country that certainly would not stand back and watch one of your own cop this. Im afraid the people of Australia who once were 90% saying NOT GUILTY have been manipulated again by the media to drop to about 40% with heaps of garbage attacking the corby family and now in the gutter of reporting unfounded stories of Micheal Corby who has just passed away. What an absolute shame. When the Bali Bombings occured 2002 our Federal Police were invited over to help and it was their work , not the Indos that solved the crime. When the psunami hit we gave one billion dollars in aid, then when the same Federal Police asked for a sample of the GUNJA - marijuana to test for place of origin - they were refused (Figure that one out). Her trial was a great miscarriage of justice fraught with errors and flaws, they wouldnt even test the bag for fingerprints as Schappele had requested several times. So SO Wrong - help get her out.

I will tell everyone I know that Bali, and all of Indonesia is never to be traveled to. I am 27 years old and can say that I will never travel to Bali. I will also not buy Indonesian goods. They obviously have a justice system that considers the defendants guilty until proven innocent. They are ignorant and antiquated. This injustice will come back to all of there people. As an American I believe both the USA and Australia should boycott traveling to Bali.

I can't belive what i'm hearing and seeing. I am a U.S. citizen and we complain about our judicial system constantly but one thing is for sure... our belief in "the burden of proof is on the prosecution" is without dispute. We would rather see 1000 guilty people go free than 1 innocent person in prison. Right or wrong.... I can't believe that I randomly chose to watch this in 2008 and it is the first I have heard of this! This is a global issue that needs to be considered as so. It is most definately the Australian governments' job to ensure this woman is freed. This issue needs more attention so that more pressure can be put on the people and governments who are gatekeepers in this situation.
